Sterling silver and blue tigereye
49 x 37 mm
This pendant was a gift for my friend. Her grandfather had cut this gemstone (among others) and I wanted to make her something special with this stone. I saw a similar design for a wire wrapped pendant with a bead in the centre, but I think this pendant looks more sturdy and balanced.
I have always liked to make ornaments and things from wire and have been playing with pliable aluminium wire for over 10 years now. Even so, I found it difficult to bend the thick silver wire of this pendant perfectly into the shapes that I wanted it in. This project made it evident that I prefer to work with plate, rather than wire.
The frame and scrolls were made from thick sterling silver wire. The stone was set in an open-backed bezel setting that fits into one of the scrolls and the pendant is suspended from a large oval jumpring.
