Sterling silver and blue topaz
40 x 40 mm
This striking pendant was a 50th birthday gift to one of my friends. Her son gave her three rough blue topaz nuggets and I had it cut into large gemstones. One of these stones is a round faceted stone with a buff top and a butterfly cut into the pavilion which makes this gemstone absolutely beautiful.
At first I planned to set the stone in a relatively simple pendant for emphasis. However, my friend doesn’t wear small jewellery and prefers bold and exciting pieces. So I designed a large pendant with a nature feel which fits her personality perfectly.
A leaf outline was roll-printed onto a sterling silver plate which was then domed slightly. The topaz stone is set into an open-backed bezel setting in the centre of the dome.
