Dragons are my favourite mythical creatures. I am fascinated by dragons and the fact that so many cultures across the world, whether in the East, West, North or South, have dragons in their mythology and folktales. I don’t think any other mythical creature appears so widespread in ancient lore.

For my very first wax carving project I chose to make this Celtic dragon pendant. I admit that it would have been a lot easier and faster to make something simpler the first time but I couldn’t think of anything but a dragon! Wax carving is a great technique when you want to make 3D objects with lots of curves and an organic look, so it made sense to me to try this design. In the end I really enjoyed working with the wax since it forced me to think about the item in 3D.

This pendant was first carved from wax and the lost wax technique was used to cast it in sterling silver.
